After two days diving the waters around Isla San Pedro Martir, the Rocio del Mar departed with an overnight passage to a small group of islands to our northwest, Islas San Lorenzo. We spent only one day diving here, so I did not get to know the area as well as the islands earlier in the trip. I decided to spend the entire day photographing critters with my closeup lens; I rarely do this and it was a nice change of pace to slow down and look closely for little creatures. One dive in a particular provided an explosion of Flabellinopsis iodinea nudibranchs, hundreds of them everywhere. I can’t imagine that is a typical situation; there must have been some sort of reproduction event happening. Or, maybe it is always like this. Regardless, while I see this species in California it was nice to see such a profusion of them, including very large ones. I did not see any sea lions or large schools of fish here, but did encounter a nice variety of typical small Sea of Cortez reef fishes. All in all, it was a nice location to spend our final day of SCUBA diving for this trip. Cheers, and thanks for looking!
