During my last trip to Fiji aboard the Naia, I spent time between dives photographing the gorgeous coral reefs from the air. The most productive areas were the Vatu-i-ra Seascape and around Namena Marine Reserve. We would make 4-5 dives each day on these reefs and, as I had experienced a few years earlier, making nice images of the reef scenery was easy. Underwater reefscape images in Fiji practically take themselves, the reefs are so beautiful. But on this trip I wanted to capture a different angle to complement the underwater views so folks who don’t dive might have pictures they could relate to. The individual frames my drone Superfly shoots are quite detailed, however, I prefer to compose large aerial panoramas made up of 9 to 27 individual images, the goal being enormous, highly detailed illustrations. In a few of these views you can see Naia, one of the finest liveaboard vessels in the world, to give the scene some scale. Cheers, and thanks for looking!
